Garden Planner — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 29, 2026
Garden Planner is a local-first app: your gardens, plantings, harvest log, and settings live on your device, and the app works fully offline. Signing in and cloud backup are optional. This page explains exactly what data the app handles, where it goes, and how to delete it.
Data stored on your device
Everything you create — gardens, plantings, the harvest log, custom crops, notes, and app settings — is stored in a private database on your device. Images you attach to custom crops and harvest entries are stored in the app's private storage; photos you take with the camera are additionally saved to your device's photo gallery so you keep them. Uninstalling the app deletes the app's private data (gallery photos remain, since they're yours).
Google Sign-In (optional)
You can sign in with a Google account to enable cloud backup. When you do, the app receives your name, email address, and profile picture through Google Sign-In / Firebase Authentication. This is used to show who's signed in and to tie your backups to your account. We don't use it for anything else, and we never sell or share it.
Cloud backup (optional)
- Backups upload a snapshot of your app data — gardens, plantings, the harvest log (including notes), custom crops, and the images attached to custom crops and harvest entries — to Firebase Storage (a Google Cloud service), stored under your account's ID.
- Backups are encrypted in transit and at rest by Google's infrastructure, and are readable only by your signed-in account.
- Recent snapshots are kept as restorable history; pushing new backups replaces or ages out older ones.
- Restoring your backup always works while you're signed in — including after a premium subscription ends. Your data is never held hostage.
Location (optional)
The Settings screen has a "detect my zone" button that uses your device's location once, only when you tap it, to work out your hardiness zone for frost dates and harvest predictions. The calculation happens on your device; your coordinates are neither stored nor uploaded — only the resulting zone setting is kept. You can instead pick your zone by hand or by country and never grant location access at all.
Purchases
Premium subscriptions are processed entirely by Google Play. The app receives confirmation of your subscription (a purchase token and plan) so it can unlock premium features. We never see your payment details.
Analytics
The app includes Google Analytics for Firebase, which collects standard app-usage information (such as screen views, session counts, device model, and a pseudonymous app-instance identifier). We use it to understand which features are used and to detect tampering with premium entitlements. It is not used for advertising, and we don't sell data to anyone. The app contains no ads and no third-party advertising SDKs.
Notifications
Watering, feeding, and harvest reminders are scheduled and shown entirely on your device. No data leaves your phone to deliver them.
Delete your data
- Local data: uninstall the app, or clear its storage in Android settings.
- Cloud backups and account data: email bitflip.rocks@gmail.com from the Google account you signed in with and we'll delete your backups and associated account data, normally within 30 days.
Children
Garden Planner is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated date above.
